What is the use of rice milk?

This lactose and glute n-free drink is essential. Vegetable and healthy substitute for the classic cow’s milk, is suitable for people suffering from flatulence and diarrhea.

Rice milk, whose composition favors the digestive tract, regulates emptying, eliminates flatulence, normalizes acidity and is an effective preventive of cardiovascular diseases. It can be consumed even during weight loss. Rice milk can be bought in dietary stores or normal supermarkets (with a wider range). This healthy drink can also be prepared at home.

What is rice milk?

Rice is an annual (and perennial) cereal that is grown by its grains rich in starch. Rice occurs in almost all tropical and subtropical areas, where 2-3 crops are obtained per year. But it also tolerates colder climates.

Although rice milk is not a modern “invention”, lately it has become more common. Its origins are unknown, but in the traditional recipes of many countries there are various no n-alcoholic beverages based on water and rice, such as:

  • The Korean Shikhe (Fermented rice with malt water);
  • Japanese amasaki (fermented rice with koji or aspergillus oryzae fungus) or kokko (complex ric e-based milk and other cereals, legumes, seeds, seaweed)
  • Orches (drink normally made with raw rice soaked and almonds).

Rice milk is an alternative for allergic people to animal milk, soybeans, lactose intolerance and phenylcetonuria. It is suitable for people who do not consider animal milk healthy, do not consume it for philosophical, religious, ethical reasons.

It is not adequate for rice allergic people, but this disease is more frequent in Asia than in Europe. Even people who regularly consume animal milk can appreciate the special flavor of rice drink.

Chemical composition and caloric content

The exact composition of rice milk depends on how it has been prepared, and the types produced industrially, also on additives, aromatizing, possible enrichment with minerals and vitamins. As a general rule, it contains a minimum of fats and more complex and simple carbohydrates. A no n-enriched product does not contain significant amounts of vitamins, minerals; A drinking with calcium usually contains 120 mg of this substance per 100 ml, as well as cow’s milk.

Benefits

Vegetable milk is not milk in the literal sense of the word, and according to our legislation the term “drink” is applied, since the “milk” denomination refers exclusively to a product of animal origin. While animal milk is processed differently after milking, vegetable drinks are produced by pressing and fermentation. They have less protein and more carbohydrates than the cow product. They also have less saturated fats and do not contain lactose. They are a fairly valuable source of fiber, vitamins, minerals and lecithin. Vegetable drinks are usually enriched with other valuable substances, which increases their nutritional value.

In addition to not containing lactose, vegetable drinks do not contain casein, milk protein or cholesterol. That is why they are used in various types of diets: without lactose, hypocolesterolemicos, for diabetics, antiallergic and to lose weight.

Hypoallergenic

Rice milk, whose advantage is that there is no risk of allergic reactions after consumption, it is an adequate alternative to cow’s milk. It does not contain cholesterol and is low in fat, so it does not imply a load for the digestive tract. It does not contain lactose or casein. It has the advantage that, unlike dairy products of animal origin, the body does not acidify.

Energizing

As already said, rice drink is rich in fiber, carbohydrates, healthy minerals and fats, which makes it satiating and energizing. Its proteins are well assimilated, “incorporated” into the human body. According to experts, its consumption is much more beneficial than the inclusion in the diet of the classic animal milk, less digestible.

Increase immunity

Do you want to increase your body’s defenses? Drink rice milk. Its benefits (and damages) for women, children and men are due to their special composition. Thanks to its beneficial composition, this drink helps reinforce the immunity of the body and is recommended to people suffering from allergies.

Vegetable milk contains many health benefits of the entire body. In addition to the aforementioned fibers, carbohydrates, minerals, lecithin and vitamins necessary for the body contribute to strengthening immunity.

Improve the skin

Women will appreciate the capacity of rice milk to nurture their skin and significantly improve their elasticity.

Even in the literature, indirect evidence of this fact can be found in the findings on beauty, the elasticity of the skin of Japanese and Chinese women.

Inorganic arsenic is much more toxic than its organic compounds. It is harmful to human being and has genotoxic and carcinogenic effects, mainly causing lung, bladder and skin cancer. Today, arsenic toxicity remains the object of scientific research; It is considered appropriate to put low limits to its food content, because everyone obtains 95% of this substance of their diet and drinking water, the rest through the skin, breathing.

Rice, more than other cereals, accumulates arsenic in the outer layer of the grain. Therefore, whole grains usually contain more arsenic than white rice. Consequently, it is harmful to consume a healthy food product in large quantities. Refined cereals contain approximately 70% arsenically inorganic, while comprehensive rice contains up to 80%.

Low in nutrients

Rice milk is poor in fat, vitamins (A, B12, D, K2) and minerals. These ingredients must be provided by a varied diet. Therefore, when you avoid dairy products of animal origin, it includes in your meat diet, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, legumes, leafy vegetables and crucifers and avocados. Try to sunbathe enough to replenish vitamin D.

Not suitable for child feeding

Let’s see now the benefits and damages of rice milk for children. From 6 months of age, babies can be given to a flavorless, homeless or purchased product, with an adequate composition, using it to drink and prepare porridge. Rich calcium varieties can be introduced from the year of age. However, as with other products derived from rice, vegetable milk should not be given daily to a small child, particularly because of its possible arsenic content.

Not recommended for diabetics

When you buy rice milk, read the content carefully. Rice milk manufacturers usually add various stabilizers and flavoring to drink. These chemicals reduce their quality. In addition, vegetable milk usually contains corn starch, a carbohydrate that increases the glycemic index, the number of calories, which is bad for diabetics.

Some drinks even contain glucose-fructose syrup, one of the foods that cause overweight in the body. Other substances that must be avoided are solidified fats, sources of harmful trans fatty acids. Among other things, these substances significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and aggravate the disease already present.

Contraindications

Although rice milk is usually well tolerated, caution must be taken if there is a risk of intolerance to the main ingredient. Like any food, rice can cause digestive problems.

Intolerance can be developed when a type of food is consumed for a long period of time. Therefore, it is sometimes advisable to alternate this type of milk with oat milk, almond milk and coconut milk.

Particularities of preparation

Vegetable milk can be easily prepared at home. With your own production, it is easier to control the composition of the product. In addition, homemade vegetable milk is much cheaper than bought.

It can be made from boiled rice. But regardless of the chosen variety, it is not possible to produce a drink with this method. This rice milk is slightly sweeter than raw milk, has a thick or viscous consistency and is more suitable for cooking (porridge).

The soaked rice drink is the easiest to prepare. It is not thick, nor sweet, and has a slight taste of raw rice. It can be aromatized with vanilla extracts, cocoa, carob, sweeten with crushed dates, figs, no n-refined vegetable sweeteners (barley, rice, agave, molasses) and honey. There are many variations, choose your personal preferences.

Rice cream, denser than milk, is also available in the market. It is used whenever culinary cream is used. You can even buy rice yogurt.

Basic consumption rules

Rice milk should be consumed preferably in the 2-3 days following its preparation. It can be used where the classic animal milk is used.

Keep homemade vegetable milk in the refrigerator, ideally in a glass container. Do not forget to remove it before using it, since its densest component is deposited in the background.
